SUMMARY :
The following paragraphs contain a brief description of my work experience. Presently I hold certfications
in several areas of computer networking, website development and electronics. My areas of occupation have been
mainly in the Automation fields of the Production and Manufacturing Industries, which include Aerospace, Printing,
and Automotive Parts Production. I also worked in Civil Service for a limited time. Although the majority of my work
experience has been in the Electrical and Electronics fields of Automation Technologies, I also have a great interest in
building various PC and Networking systems, Computer Programming and some limited Web Site Developing.
EMPLOYERS & WORK EXPERIENCE :
MEDICAL/DENTAL
The Oralcare Division of 3M in Monrovia (Formerly 3M Unitek), is a manufacturer of various medical and dental products.
As a Systems Control Technician, I am responsible for maintaining and supporting the operation of various PC, CNC and PLC
controlled systems such as Injection Molders, Mills & Lathes, Furnaces, Electroplating Systems, Automated Sorting and Packaging
machines, Laser operated machines and Robotic systems. My tasks generally include technical documentation, problem diagnosis
through various hardware and software methods, and system upgrading and improving.
AEROSPACE
My aerospace experience is varied, having been employed at the Northrop-Grumman Corporation as a Computer Numerical
Control(CNC) Technician and the Lockheed Corporation as an Aircraft Electrical Systems Installer/Tester.
At the Northrop facilities in El Segundo and Hawthorne my tasks were performing preventive maintenance and
troubleshooting system malfunctions on machinary that produced aerostructures for various aircraft. The machines here
used various Programmable Logic Controllers and Servos, CNC's and PC Controls.
In 2000 the commercial aircraft sector of Northrop-Grumman was sold to the Vought Aircraft Industries Corporation.
At the Lockheed Aircraft Service Corporation, previously located in Ontario, California, I specialized in the installation
and testing of Infrared Counter Measures, Digital Instrumentation, and Pitot-Static systems on the Air Force C-130, Navy P-3,
and Commercial L-1011 aircraft. I also obtained a security clearance by the D.O.D., and worked on secret projects for the
Department of the Navy, and special aircraft for the Royal Jordanian Air Force and for the Republic of Saudi Arabia.
PRINTING
R.R. Donnelley & Sons(L.A. Division), located in Torrance, is a commercial printing facility that prints weekly
magazines, catalogs, and inserts(People, Time, Sports Illustrated, Robinsons-May, Leslie's Pool). My tasks here consisted of
troubleshooting system malfunctions on their high-speed printing presses, binderies, and support systems, such as Robots,
Conveyors, Packagers. and Exhaust Systems.
There were many types of PLC, Servo Drives and PC Controls used here, which afforded myself a great opportunity to gain
valuable experience, knowledge, and training.
The main Press Control Systems used a VMEbus computer to interface and setup or control various systems, such as Ink Keying,
Press Speed, Web Steering, Tension and Temperature Controls, Color Registration, Exhaust and Waste Monitoring, and a Flying Paster.
These and other press systems used various communication protocols for control, such as Arcnet, Ethernet,
Data Highway Plus(DH+), CANbus, and RS-485.
AUTOMOTIVE
Hooker Industries, which was located in the city of Ontario, California until around 1986,
is a producer of automobile fuel exhaust systems (Headers). My tasks here were also preventive maintenance and
ensuring machine operations, such as Tube Benders, Flame Cutters, Electroplating facilities, Gas Furnaces and
Welders. The experience here was my first with PLC's, Electronic IC components and numerical control(NC) machines, and fueled my
interests in the operation of NC and PC controlled automated systems.
SHIPBUILDING
Shortly after my honorable discharge from the Navy, I obtained employment with the Long Beach naval shipyard
as an Electrician. At the time the USS New Jersey was undergoing a major refitting of weapons, communications
and tracking systems. I was responsible mainly for the installation and testing of the ships Telephone and 1MC
general announcing systems. I returned a couple of years later for about 3 months when the USS Missouri underwent
similar modifications.
